Position Statement

The PCU staff nurse is responsible for the care of adult and geriatric patients including management of multiple medical diagnoses and performing post-surgical care.

Key Responsibilities

* Performs nursing skills within scope of practice for their RN or LPN licensure including patient assessments, communication and documentation of patient findings, and participation in multi-disciplinary team to fulfill the patient's plan of care.

* Inserts and maintain peripheral IVs. Manages care of PICC lines, Implantable ports, and central lines.

* Performs wound assessments and treatments.

* Provides compassionate end of life care.

* Interprets and responds to telemetry monitoring.

* Provides education to patients and their families regarding their diagnosis, treatment, medications, and safe discharge planning.

* Attends and participates in unit education and in-services.

* Strives to improve the quality of patient care through personal development and unit projects.

* Collaborates with teammates to promote and preserve a positive work-place culture.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Current Vermont RN or LPN license required.

* Completion of Telemetry class and exam required within one year of hire. Experienced nurses can 'test out' of class by passing exam. Classes are provided by employer.

* ACLS certification required within one year of hire. New provider classes as well as recertification classes offered by employer.

* Maintains current AVADE certification. Classes and certification offered by employer.
