Overview

SUMMARY:

Responsible for management of the daily operations of the physical plant, systems and grounds. Manages the repair, design, modification, and preservation of buildings and grounds. Ensures that all architectural mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and cooling systems are in operating order and in compliance with all applicable governing agency facility standards, codes and regulations. Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to Brown University Health s and the Hospital s mission, vision, values and goals through leadership of assigned functions and participation in organizational activities.
  • Demonstrates understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment plan.
  • Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of customers and adheres to Customer Service Standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements department and applicable hospital policies and procedures to maintain effective operations and meet expectations of those served.
  • Reviews and maintains current departmental and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Reviews Hospital/Brown University Health policies and procedures.
  • Completes mandatory education:
    Hospital-wide, Department-specific, Job-specific.
  • Collaborates with Director and Brown University Health leadership in the development and maintenance of the facilities and grounds.
  • Ensures the department s scope of services meets internal and external customer needs and expectations.
  • Creates a shared vision by developing and communicating the department s goals aligned with the hospital s and Brown University Health s mission.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and innovation to facilitate changes to improve operations, revenue, effectiveness, productivity, and quality factors.
  • Demonstrates a confident and positive attitude with functional competency and technical credibility; exhibits effective decision-making skills.
  • Develops strategic alliances inside and outside the organization and serves as a role model for customer service.
  • Promotes continuous knowledge acquisition and professional development; participates in professional organizations and programs.
  • Serves as an advocate of the hospital.
  • Human Resource Management & Development responsibilities include fair, equitable handling of employee relations, manpower planning, competency-based descriptions, hiring, performance management, and staff development.
  • Interviews candidates and selects qualified personnel; conducts annual performance reviews; provides recognition, coaching, and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Fosters teamwork and staff participation in problem-solving and decision-making; assesses and analyzes competency and learning needs; develops ongoing education and training plans.
  • Financial management includes budget development, monitoring expenses, and maximizing efficiency and revenue; manages staffing to optimize productivity and payroll processes.
  • Information management includes policy development, data security, and ensuring manuals are current and accessible.
  • Management of physical/tangible assets includes equipment acquisition, maintenance, inventory, and loss prevention; coordinates department equipment management plan.
  • Safety management includes department-specific safety policies, training, and leadership on safety issues.
  • Continual improvement activities to measure, assess, and improve service quality; allocate resources and monitor results; integrate improvements into processes.
  • Communication includes effective listening, writing, presentations, conflict resolution, and information flow within the department and organization.
  • Scope of service includes ensuring compliance with standards, codes, and regulations; managing maintenance of mechanical/electrical systems and related infrastructure; maintaining facility drawings and specifications; overseeing building trades and maintenance work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent degree or training/experience.
  • Knowledge of plant engineering services including mechanical and electrical systems, medical appliance electronics, electro-mechanical systems, refrigeration and cooling, plumbing, heating, carpentry, painting, landscaping, and architecture.
  • Five years of comparable management experience in healthcare facilities management or related field.
