Summary

Performs electrocardiographic and other related diagnostic examinations as directed and according to established standards and practices. Scans Holter Monitors for electrocardiographic changes after ambulatory monitoring. Performs other related duties as required. Responsibilities

Demonstrates understanding of Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values. Demonstrates understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment plan. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to our Customer Service Standards. Maintains current CPR certification. Complies with department and hospital policies and procedures. Completes mandatory safety management education. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Performs routine and emergency EKGs. Prepares patient for test according to policy and procedure giving consideration to the patient’s age and special needs. Demonstrates ability to obtain a quality EKG study by proper use of equipment. Obtains necessary comparisons of EKGs for physician review to aid in the interpretation of current EKGs. Performs stress testing as follows:
Under the direct supervision of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant. After an Informed Consent Form has been explained and signed by each patient. After a 12-lead EKG has been obtained. Demonstrates ability to monitor patient for signs of fatigue. Document blood pressure, heart rate, symptoms, and abnormal EKG response. Observe patient and EKG for post-test hemodynamic changes. Commence emergency intervention in case of Code Blue.

Prepare Final Report, obtain and distribute copies when necessary. Stocks and cleans work areas routinely. Responds to Hospital Code Blue Team. Performs all aspects of office functions. Uses information systems to charge physician and patient components. Documents department activities in the log books and other necessary documentation records. Assists with CQI studies. Schedules patients for testing. Answers phones in absence of Secretary.

Fully utilizes the cardiology-based data management system:
Accurately transcribes physician dictation for EKGs, stress tests, and holter monitor reports. Maintains accurate patient information for storage. Faxes, transmits, stores, edits, retrieves, modifies, and creates EKGs and stress tests. Completes Cardiac Defibrillator Competency annually. Applies ambulatory holter monitors to inpatients and outpatients according to policy and procedure:
Obtains a 12-lead prior to hook-up. Obtains a test strip. Checks on monitors during inpatient stays. Instructs patient of diary requirements and study limitations. Unhooks monitor ensuring that data is recorded properly and successfully. Maintains equipment in good working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems. Notifies management of faulty equipment. Performs Holter Monitor scanning duties. Continually monitors computer screen for rate and rhythm changes.

Identifies and assigns classification of all abnormalities including ST-T wave changes, arrhythmias, cardiac electro-conduction defects, pacemaker malfunction, and other abnormalities. Notifies physician immediately of any results which may require intervention. Chooses and documents tracings for final report and physician interpretation. Prepares and gives preliminary analysis and narrative summary to reading physician. Notes any considerations concerning the recording, scanning, or hook-up which may be pertinent to the interpretation in the “technician comment” section.

Refers any unusual computer scanning problems to management. Maintains all documentation logs for Holter Monitoring. Performs back-up procedure.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent). Knowledge of medical terminology, transcription, and computer skills. Previous Holter scanning experience. Current CPR certification.

Pay Range

$18.13-$29.90
