Job Summary: The House Supervisor is a key clinical and operational leader responsible for coordinating hospital activities across all departments during assigned shifts, under the direction of the Director of Nursing. This role ensures smooth hospital operations by providing oversight, guidance, and support to staff while maintaining continuity of care and operational effectiveness.
The House Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for administrative issues after hours, communicates with the Administrator on Call (AOC) regarding significant events, and facilitates effective interdepartmental collaboration. Acting as a resource in complex clinical situations, the Supervisor supports safe, high-quality, patient-centered care for diverse patient populations. This position plays a vital role in upholding the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
The House Supervisor promotes a positive work environment, advocates for patients and staff, and ensures alignment with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients and their families to ensure a positive care experience.
- Provides clear explanations and emotional support to patients as needed.
- Adapts care procedures to meet the unique needs of patients across the lifespan, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, staff, and self in accordance with hospital policies and safety standards.
- Treats all patients and families with dignity and respect, while recognizing and responding to their psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and individual needs.
- Delivers patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
- Actively supports and contributes to a culture of safety, quality improvement, and accountability.
- Provides administrative oversight in the absence of executive leadership, ensuring continuity of operations and timely problem resolution.
- Escalates significant patient care, safety, or operational issues to the Administrator on Call (AOC) as appropriate.
- Promotes effective communication and coordination across hospital departments, physician teams, external facilities, and agencies.
- Manages patient flow by coordinating admissions based on clinical acuity and bed availability.
- Ensures compliance with hospital policies, procedures, risk management, and patient safety protocols. Reports risk concerns promptly.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, updating care plans to support optimal outcomes and care transitions.
- Ensures appropriate nursing coverage for labor and postpartum care; may assist as a second RN in the OB department when needed.
- Collaborates with surgical and OB teams after hours to coordinate emergent procedures and transfers of care.
- Serves as a resource for respiratory care during off-hours; competent in BiPAP, ventilator management, and arterial blood gas (ABG) collection.
- Fosters a learning environment by mentoring staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members through formal and informal education.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
RN
Required Licensure /
Certifications:
Current State Registered Nurse Licensure, BLS
Required Experience:
BSN or a minimum of 2 years as a Charge Nurse or leadership experience and demonstrated leadership abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred, Certifications in ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP preferred

- Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation in increments increases annually.
