Description

Leidos has an opening for an Engineering Technician V supporting our NATSC contract in Newport Rhode Island.

Successful candidates will be the repair line lead technician for TB-29

CSUB product line of the Navy Array Technical Support Center (NATSC) at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport.

As such they will monitor activities on a repair or assembly line, observing work for efficient use of resources, adherence to work instructions and quality standards, and meeting production schedules. They will mentor and assist with the training of junior technicians.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with forecasting repair line progress, make recommendations concerning line loading, and represent the line at regular production meetings.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
  • Perform at this level one of a combination of such typical duties as: designs, develops, and constructs major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results.
  • From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), develop designs for equipment without critical performance requirements which are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry.
  • Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems; select from several possible design layouts; calculate design data; and prepare layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc.
  • Determine test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conduct tests using all types of instruments; analyze and evaluate test results, and prepare reports on findings and recommendations.
  • Contact personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work; review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others.
  • May train and be assisted by lower level technicians.
  • Plan or assist in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school/vocational school diploma or GED certificate or Technical school diploma.
  • 5+ years of electronics repair or other relevant work experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD secret level clearance. Must have a minimum of a DOD Interim secret level clearance to start in this position.
  • Familiar with standard computer operation and Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth or working knowledge with TB-29C Towed Sonar Arrays.
  • Documented completion of soldering and/or fiber-optic termination/connectorization certification/training.
  • Operational knowledge and experience with industrial equipment including, but not limited to, that of the type used with module hosing/dehosing, pressure, tension, and handling testing, and automated/semi-automated electronic test equipment; measuring/grinding of hose material, mechanical swaging, cable connector molding and pressure testing, as appropriate to the shop/product line assigned.
  • Experience performing electronic repairs at the component level using copper and fiber optic signal path repair procedures/techniques to documented quality standards using formal work procedures or, experience manufacturing hose assemblies for various tow array modules from raw stock to documented quality standards using formal work procedures, or preparing and terminating sonar array tow cables using formal work procedures and in accordance with documented quality standards.
  • Active DOD secret clearance or Interim Secret clearance.
  • Documented experience supervising repair technicians and technical repair line operations.
  • Experience using the Towed Array Management System (TAMS).
  • Experience using the NATSC Depot Application (NDA) and Master Control document control system.
Compensation and Benefits

This role is covered by the Service Contract Act. This position will pay $39.46 per hour.
