Location: Fort Adams Visitor Center & Main Gate Entrance
Position OverviewHistoric Fort Adams is operated by the Fort Adams Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing Fort Adams for the public’s benefit. Visitor Services Associate serves as the first point of contact for many guests and plays a key role in shaping the visitor experience. This position is responsible for ticket sales, retail operations, admissions support, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service to all visitors.
This role is split between the Visitor Center and the Fort’s main gate entrance. Associates spend part of their shift managing ticket and merchandise sales inside the Visitor Center and part of their shift stationed at the main gate greeting visitors, checking tickets, and directing guests appropriately.
Key Responsibilities- Sell tour tickets and Fort Adams merchandise
- Operate point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently
- Greet visitors and serve as a welcoming, professional representative of Fort Adams
- Stock merchandise and maintain organization of retail displays
- Restock beverage refrigerator and monitor inventory levels
- Notify Director of Operations & Events when inventory or supplies are low
- Provide general information about Fort Adams, tours, events, and Newport attractions
- Station at the Fort’s main gate to check tickets and welcome guests
- Direct visitors to the Visitor Center for ticket purchases or additional information
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of Visitor Center and gate area
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor
- Comfortable handling cash and using point-of-sale systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors during gate shifts
- Willingness to learn Fort Adams history and general Newport information
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and variable seasonal hours
