Position Summary

To better serve the community members currently incarcerated in our jail, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking to hire a Corrections Health Nurse to join their team. This person will provide standard nursing care to patients within the correctional facility, respond to day-to-day medical issues and emergencies, and work within a correctional environment while treating patients with respect.

Salary

$30.61 - $41.13 per hour
* Lincoln County follows Oregon Pay Equity laws in reviewing education and experience for wage offer. LPNs with an AA or BS degree receive an additional financial incentive. Verified translation abilities are also eligible for an incentive. A $5,000.00 hiring bonus is included.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
  • Assessment: Collect comprehensive data related to the health of the population served and document it in understandable terms.
  • Diagnosis and Priorities: Analyze assessment data to derive a nursing diagnosis and priorities, involving patient participation.
  • Outcomes Identification: Identify culturally relevant, health literate, evidence‑based outcomes and measurable objectives.
  • Planning: Develop and coordinate a comprehensive plan of nursing care, selecting appropriate interventions and strategies.
  • Implementation: Oversee the plan by administering treatments, medications, detox assessments, dressing changes, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Evaluation: Apply ongoing assessment data to revise plans, interventions, and activities, documenting changes for effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities
  • Documentation: Document medical history, current problems, allergies, ongoing medications, and interventions using an electronic medical records program.
  • Medication: Provide sound pharmacology dispensing practices, including drug identification, action, side effects, and dosage.
  • Equipment: Evaluate and monitor medical supplies, maintain equipment, and support physicians during examinations.
  • Emergencies: Respond to emergency situations, take charge until EMS arrives, implement emergency measures, and follow up on referrals.

Job Duties
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, training, and activities to further the health of the community.
  • Provide training to staff of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on First Aid/AED/CPR, Narcan, and other health care topics.
Job Scope

Operates from established procedures documented in the policy and procedures of Lincoln County. Decisions are made within written standing orders and performed under the direction of the licensed Medical Provider.

Typical Qualifications
  • Education: Associates and/or Professional Certification; completion of a Licensed Practical Nursing certificate program. Must possess a valid Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • Experience: Experience as an LPN is not required; however, 3 years’ experience as a non‑licensed or licensed caregiver is preferred.
  • Driver’s License: Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
  • Background Check: Extensive check required. Must be free of convictions of certain felonies and controlled substance offenses. Must pass a law enforcement background check and psychological assessment. Selected candidate must reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

  • General healthcare services and medical record‑keeping practices.
  • Principles, practices, and procedures of nursing in primary care.
  • Medication, narcotics, immunizations, and substance abuse issues.
  • Clinical skills, physical assessment, laboratory interpretation.
  • Public health laws and regulations.
