Overview
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking to add a Background Investigator to their team to assist with conducting confidential background investigations and follow-ups pertaining to Sheriff’s Office job candidates. This role is also responsible for preparing reports and making recommendations to the Division Commander.
$31.15 - $41.85 per hour*
This is a Part-Time, Non-Benefitted position.
Essential Functions/Major ResponsibilitiesConduct thorough and complete background investigations:
- Review applications for completeness and direct applicants to provide additional information, if needed.
- Contact and conduct interviews of applicants, applicant personal references and applicant employment references.
- Locate and review information regarding criminal history, police reports, school transcripts, driving records and other documentation available regarding applicant’s life history.
- Conduct discrepancy interviews with applicants and/or personal and employment references to determine truthfulness of documentation or information provided.
Prepare written summaries of findings; identify strengths and weaknesses; make recommendations regarding suitability for employment:
- Confer with Division Commander(s), or hiring decision maker to discuss information obtained, scope of investigation(s) and/or to request additional instruction or advice as needed.
- Demonstrate confidentiality when obtaining information of a personal or professional nature.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma / GED
Experience
Six years of law enforcement experience as a police or corrections officer.
Driver’s License
Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be free of conviction of a crime designated under the law where the conviction occurred as being punishable as a felony or as a crime for which a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one (1) year may be imposed; or of violating any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug.
Dishonorable or undesirable discharge from the military is cause for disqualification. Must be able to pass a law enforcement background check. A psychological assessment will also be administered. Reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
