Job Summary

Engineer Software 1 – Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII. Position . Team: E70 A1B Propulsion Plant Planning Yard. Full‑time, 1st shift with no telework or travel requirements. Relocation assistance available. US citizenship required. Clearance not required to start. Responsible for software configuration management and development within the Control and Information Systems section of Department E70.

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug application software and systems with logical and mathematical solutions.
• Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers in planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
• Determine computer user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
• Prepare operating instructions and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
• Ensure software standards are met and regularly communicate with the Navy, NNL, outside vendors, and management/engineers across the PPPY and other NNS departments via email, phone, and meetings.

• Must have:
  Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
• Nice to have: strong written and verbal communication skills;
  Agile/Scrum/Kanban experience; experience configuring and managing virtual environments (VMware, Virtual Box, QEMU); developing applications in C#; CM tools such as Git, Clear Quest, ADO, and Jira.
