Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. They work on lighting, power distribution, communications, navigation, and other shipboard electrical systems. They read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job requires quick switching between lighting and receptacle hookups, wireway rack installation, equipment rebuilding, electronic control installation, lighting maintenance, preventive maintenance, and welding of studs for mounting equipment.

• Work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Perform kneeling, squatting, crawling, bending, stooping, and climbing.
• Lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
• Work assigned shift as production needs.
• Pass Physical Agility Test.
• Successful completion of an electrical, technical, mechanical or vocational program or related military training OR at least 1 year experience as a commercial, residential, industrial or marine electrician or similar experience in mechanical, carpentry, auto mechanics, roofing or computer/IT.

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
