The position involves applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. Read work orders or receive instruction from a supervisor and/or crew leader.

• Prepares, cleans and paints surfaces of walls, floors, ceilings and furniture; mixes materials used as paints, stains, varnishes, enamels and lacquers to match specified colors.
• Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and protects surfaces such as base boards, door frames and windows with masking tape during painting.
• Makes minor plastering repairs to walls and ceilings; uses brushes, spray guns and paint rollers as required.
• Removes old paint by various methods. Cleans tools and equipment after use.
• Ensures all materials are stocked daily on painter’s truck prior to leaving for the job site; maintains cleaning of old or outdated material off of the vehicle.
• Accesses and navigates the School Dude maintenance software to document labor, materials, and other applicable data.
• Accesses and navigates the Sun Trust Spending Platform to reconcile P-Card purchases.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

• High school diploma or trade school certificate of completion is required.
• Moderate experience as a skilled journeyman painter is preferred.
• The ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid Virginia Driver’s License is required.
