As a welder, you will be qualified through the shipyard’s state-of-the-art welding school. After completion, you will use a wide range of welding filler metals and welding processes to perform structural and/or pipe welds in all phases of ship construction. You will:

• Weld tack, fillet, and full-penetration welds on steel foundations and structural and pipe joints in production on aircraft carriers and submarines.
• Use welding processes including SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding).
• Weld in all positions using both manual and mechanized processes and satisfy all nondestructive testing requirements (visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic inspection, radiographic inspection).
• Receive additional training including certified visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting minor welding equipment problems.

This position is for job seekers who have received and can provide a certificate or diploma in Welding or a directly related field. Directly related fields include AWS Welding (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and/or FCAW).

Candidates with no experience or certifications are encouraged to apply to the Welder Trainee requisition.

• One or more certificates of completion or diploma in Welding or a directly related field from a high school vocational program, community college, trade school, technical college, apprentice program, post–secondary institution, or military equivalent.
• Willingness to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
