** Overview
* * The Protection Officer in Charge (OIC) works under the supervision of the Protection Supervisor. The OIC provides leadership in the absence of the Protection Supervisor to ensure the protection of facility assets, patients, staff and visitors. Ensures that protection services and assistance, as outlined by policies and procedures and management, are accomplished for visitors, patients and staff. Conducts training. Conducts audits and ensures regulatory compliance.
Assist Supervisor with hiring and other duties as needed.
** What you will do*
* * Serve as a resource to the Protection Supervisor in managing the daily functions of the Protection department. Provide operational leadership to staff daily and as directed by Management. Provide on-the-job training and facility familiarity training for new or reassigned officers to the shift to enhance retention and help reduce turnover of staff.
* Maintain positive public relations with the community. Escort employees, visitors, and patients as requested. Assist with transportation and lifting of patients as requested. Assist with visitor management credentialing, provide contraband searching/wanding. Direct and assist patients, visitors, employees, contractors, and other members of the public to the appropriate parking areas. Direct persons to the appropriate entrance of the facility. Assist with employee, contractors, and visitor badging and ensure all persons are in compliance with established policies.
* Maintain logs, input work orders into Worxhub, input calls for service into Omingo, SOPs and current Communication manual, complete training modules, inspection of Protection vehicles and vehicle equipment, fire extinguishers, radios, Genetic, infant security alarms (TOTs), emergency blue lights, Worxhub and equipment.
* Troubleshoot and provide timely follow-up of incidents involving the fire, intrusion, TOTs, duress, and security alarm systems. Review and ensure that incidents reports are written of criminal activities, unsafe conditions or unusual circumstances, including safety and fire hazards. Record and release lost/found and patient valuables in accordance with policy or at the direction of management. Conduct in-depth initial investigation of all criminal incidents as assigned by management with documentation.
* Maintain and make recommendations to published schedules and activities as evidenced by the following criteria
-respond with flexibilty to changes, adapt to varying work assignments to deliver services in an effective manner. Meet weekend, off shift and holiday staffing requirements. Assist management in seeking replacement for time changes of any type.
* Ensure that systematic and unsystematic tours of facility grounds and buildings are conducted to provide for the safety and security of all persons and property and to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, criminal activity, and illegal entry. Ensure the enforcement of the facility’s policy and procedures such as trespassing, smoking, parking regulations and visitation at the direction of management. Handle disorderly conduct within facility.
Bring to the attention of the Supervisor, any accidents, injuries, safety matters, or protection problems. Complete computer based training and other employee training modules necessary for position to remain up to date on safety issues, procedures and processes. Identify opportunities for service improvement and participate in process improvement and departmental in-services. Responsible for ensuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and in accordance with RHS policies and procedures.
Demonstrates the ability to keep work area neat, clean and in compliance with RHS, DNV, NFPA, ISO and State safety standards.
