Purpose of the Position: Under the direction of the Food Service Manager and First Cook, this position prepares and produces assigned menu items by reading and comprehending recipes. It also assigns and monitors jobs of subordinate personnel. Additionally, this position will perform other duties as assigned to include but not limited to serving and cleaning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position:

• Ability to read and write
• Demonstrated basic math skills
• Knowledge of all types of cooking methods by reading and converting recipes
• Knowledge of all kitchen equipment
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently
• Ability to communicate in writing or verbally to both supervisors and subordinates
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures
• Ability to work in congested work areas and areas where wet processes are used
• Ability to wear protective footwear
• Ability to work from 12 pm – 8:30 pm

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification

Required:

Education:

• High school graduate or equivalent education and experience that equates to a high school diploma

Experience:

• Experience in a high volume kitchen environment

Additional Consideration(s):

Education:

• Serv Safe certified or equivalent certified food handler certificate
• Some Culinary Arts School or equivalent practical experience of 10 or more years

Experience:

• Supervisory experience
• Experience working in a university or institutional setting
• Experience in menu planning and recipe development
• Experience working with commercial kitchen equipment

Salary Information: Starting at $32,672, Commensurate with Education and Experience
