What Your Job Will Be Like

The Physics Division (Hall

D) at Jefferson Lab invites applicants to fill a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will study novel AI/ML techniques to solve problems in hadron spectroscopy. Also contribute to the development and documentation of new amplitude analysis tools, which are used by the GlueX collaboration to extract publishable results from experimental data.

In This Role You Will
  • Contribute to the physics output of the Hall D experiments and the GlueX collaboration in particular. Carry out the analysis of the data aiming at delivering publishable results.
  • Explore and develop scientific directions and methods within the research project "Advanced methods for hybrid meson search". In particular, use artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for amplitude analysis to tackle challenges in model selection and fit stability.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of new amplitude analysis tools, which can be used by the GlueX collaboration. Evaluate their performance on heterogeneous hardware (CPU, GPU).
Qualifications We Require Education
  • Ph.D. in an appropriate area of experimental nuclear physics
  • Education above the minimum may not be substituted for experience.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing (e.g. email, memos, explanations, drawings) and explain work to his/her supervisor and others in the group.
  • Ability to interacts well with work group.
  • Can represent work associated with specific projects at professional meetings.

  • Recognized research program in experimental nuclear and/or hadron physics that overlaps with the JLab scientific program upon hire
  • Experience with AI/ML techniques and data analysis
