Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Riverside Health System

Location:

Newport News, Virginia. The LPN performs duties under the direction of a licensed medical practitioner or registered nurse. Responsibilities include conduct focused patient assessments, implement plans of care, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and rotating across all urgent‑care locations.

• Accurately complete all required clinical documentation per RHS standards; maintain documentation for QA, including point‑of‑care testing, medication logs, and annual wellness visits.
• Provide patient education on prescribed medications and facilitate patient completion of registration and medical history forms.
• Answer telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, physicians, vendors; communicate lab/pathology results and schedule additional tests per provider order.
• Ensure proper reimbursement by performing pre‑authorization for prescription drugs, procedures, and patient tests.
• Build trusting collaborative relationships with the multidisciplinary team; actively participate in team meetings.

Education

• Program Graduate, Licensed Practical Nurse (Preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Experience

• 1 year nursing experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications (Required)

• Licensed Practical Nurse license – Virginia Department of Health Professions (Upon Hire)
• CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross (Upon Hire)

Other Requirements

• Weekend shifts
• Irregular shifts
• Work/Float in more than one location
