Perform health services duties in the absence of the School Nurse/Treatment Nurse.

• Provide direct nursing care to students and staff by administering medications, immunizations, first aid, emergency health care, and nursing care prescribed by a medical provider; accompany students to the hospital as necessary.
• Report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect through proper channels.
• Maintain compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs); perform nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, and tracheostomy care as needed.
• Ensure sanitary standards of the school’s clinic are met and maintain OSHA standards regarding Bloodborne Pathogens and other infectious materials.
• Maintain proper documentation and health records for all students within the assigned school, prepare and submit reports as required, and utilize the nursing components of the ESIS computer system.
• Comply with laws, regulations, protocols, and School Board policies related to school health services.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Note:

Must possess current RN or LPN licensure to practice in Virginia, certified by the Virginia Board of Nursing, and current CPR certification. A valid driver’s license is required. Ability to travel to multiple work locations if assigned to an itinerant position.
