Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Outside Machinist to join our shipyard team. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, alignment, and repair of shipboard machinery and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically skilled, and comfortable working in a marine/industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, remove, overhaul, and repair shipboard machinery including pumps, valves, motors, turbines, compressors, and related equipment
  • Perform precision alignment of shafts, bearings, and machinery using hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work specifications
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on mechanical systems
  • Work aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in confined spaces as required
  • Follow all safety policies, shipyard procedures, and environmental regulations
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to complete projects on schedule
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of experience as an Outside Machinist (marine required)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and rotating equipment
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, levels, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings
  • Physically capable of lifting, climbing, and working in tight or elevated spaces
  • OSHA training or shipyard safety certifications a plus
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Ship repair or new construction experience
  • Navy, Coast Guard, or commercial marine background
  • Experience working under NAVSEA or ABS specifications
  • Forklift, rigging, or crane signaling experience
  • Competitive hourly pay (based on experience)
