Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer II (NE2) to join our IT infrastructure team for an onsite contract engagement in Newport News, VA. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, resilient, and high-performing enterprise network environments across Layers 2–7.
The ideal candidate brings expertise in routing, switching, firewalls, wireless systems, and Network Access Control (NAC). You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot complex network issues, and contribute to robust network strategies that enhance reliability, scalability, and security across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 configurations to support high availability and optimal performance.
- Configure dynamic routing protocols, including OSPF and EIGRP
, and manage redundancy technologies such as HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP
. - Deploy and manage firewall policies, including stateful inspection
, NAT
, and ACLs
, to enforce security requirements. - Troubleshoot and support upper-layer protocols and services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and HTTPS
. - Configure and optimize wireless infrastructure, including WLC settings
, RF tuning, roaming, and coverage improvements. - Implement and maintain Network Access Control (NAC) solutions such as Cisco ISE or Aruba Clear Pass (CPPM).
- Support segmentation strategies using VRFs and assist with introductory BGP and MPLS configurations.
- Monitor performance, analyze logs, and proactively resolve network issues to reduce downtime.
- Maintain accurate network documentation and participate in change management and architectural discussions.
- Strong experience with Layer 2–Layer 3 networking
, including VLAN design, trunking, and inter-VLAN routing. - Hands‑on experience configuring Ether Channel/LACP and advanced STP features (Port Fast, BPDU Guard, Root Guard).
- Proficiency in OSPF and EIGRP routing configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with redundant gateway protocols:
HSRP, VRRP, GLBP
. - Familiarity with VRFs and foundational route leaking concepts.
- Knowledge of L4–L7 networking
, including firewall functions (stateful inspection, NAT, ACLs). - Ability to perform troubleshooting across application‑layer services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S).
- Understanding of QoS fundamentals (classification, marking, queuing).
- Intermediate skills in enterprise Wi‑Fi, including WLC configuration and RF optimization.
- Experience with NAC platforms such as Cisco ISE or Aruba Clear Pass

Certifications:
CCNA, Network+, Security+. - Preferred Certification: CCNP (highly beneficial).
- Experience with industrial Ethernet switching and familiarity with Moxa switches is a plus.
