Maintains smooth operation of multi‑user computer systems, coordination with network administrators, vendor evaluation, hardware/software procurement, installation, backup recovery, policy development, system documentation, performance tuning, mass storage allocation, and software configuration management for the Software Configuration Management and Development (SwCMD) group. Also serves as Backup System Administrator for a software development network, implementing and managing software configuration management tools, ensuring RMF controls compliance, implementing STIGs, and coordinating with Security Officers.
Responsibilities- Maintain multi‑user computer systems and coordinate with network administrators.
- Interact with users (software developers) and evaluate vendor products.
- Recommend and procure hardware/software, coordinate installation and provide backup recovery.
- Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocation of computing resources.
- Perform ancillary duties such as setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining documentation, tuning performance, installing system‑wide software, and allocating mass storage space.
- Implement STIGs and manage software configuration management tools.
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of relevant exempt experience, OR
- Master’s Degree and 0 year of professional experience.
- Equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree per IT positions: NNS Apprentice School graduate;
Navy Nuclear Power School graduate;
Associate’s Degree with 2 years exempt experience or 4 years non‑exempt experience;
Military Paygrade E‑5 or above;
High School/GED with combined relevant experience; or a relevant professional certification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with a questioning attitude.
- Security+ certification.
- Red Hat 6‑10 experience.
- Software testing and developing experience.
- Knowledge management experience.
- Containerization experience, e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Open Shift, or Azure Containers.
- Agile/Scrum/Kanban experience.
