The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. Is responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care. May float to other practices as needed to support operational needs.
May be asked to float to other practices within the region providing support as needed.
- Maintain excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group. This includes updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepare patient for examination by obtaining vital signs proficiently (including manual vital signs when mechanical devices are not available). Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after patient appointments.
- Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician. Assist with processing prescription refill requests for approval and forwarding to pharmacies.
- Maintain medical inventory of supplies and keep exam rooms stocked appropriately. Keep any necessary equipment in operating order and facilitate preventive maintenance when needed.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations with scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards.
- Complete all required competencies and education to maintain skill level to provide safe patient care.
- Act as a liaison between physician and patient, providing support and comfort during clinic visits and procedures, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service, providing timely patient response and follow-up by phone and electronic means. Manage patient expectations with clear explanations and effectively manage the provider's patient schedules.
- Assist patients with providing access to care with appointments, referrals, and necessary information. Assist with patient education per protocol and provider instruction, including directions in the after-visit summary within the electronic medical record.
- Exhibit knowledge of lab procedures to include specimen collection, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and use of ABN’s (if applicable in hired practice). Properly process, package, and send specimens to the correct laboratory. Obtain preauthorization when needed. Proficient manage point of care logs and document point of care testing accurately in the electronic health record.
- Follow insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations. Maintain a working knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding and seek assistance as needed. Obtain prior authorizations when needed. Schedule tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
- Support productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources to meet patient demand. Maximize physician visits so that productivity targets are met. Assist and contribute to meet quality measures for the organization.
- High School Diploma or GED, (Required)
- Program Graduate, Medical Assistant (Required)
- 1 year Clinical experience (Preferred)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Upon Hire (Required) or
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
- CCMA - National Health career Association (NHA) Upon Hire (Required) or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) Upon Hire (Required) or
- Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Upon Hire (Required) or
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Upon Hire (Required) or
- Medical Assistant (MA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) Upon Hire (Required) or
