OverviewThe Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) works under the direction of the supervisor/manager or Director of the Laboratory, performing technical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. The MLT follows all quality control and assurance guidelines, performs routine equipment maintenance, participates in proficiency testing, and maintains accreditation standards from CAP, DNV, State, OSHA, CLIA, etc.
The MLT assists in training new and existing personnel, performs specimen collection, processing, and phlebotomy as applicable.
- Perform technical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis, and Microbiology, facilitating positive customer service.
- Recognize, respond, and communicate collaboratively with physicians regarding laboratory variances and patient data.
- Follow all quality control and assurance guidelines and conduct routine equipment maintenance, inventory control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure accurate testing throughout preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases.
- Assist in staff and student training.
- Comply with laboratory QA/QI programs, performing preventive maintenance, QC documentation, temperature checks, method comparisons, and proficiency testing.
- Apply RHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to support National Patient Safety Goals; identify and resolve variants and non‑compliance.
- Associate’s Degree in Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or related field (Required).
- 2 years of clinical laboratory experience (Preferred).
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Upon Hire (Required).
