Patient Care Assistant On Call

Overview

The On-Call Patient Care Assistant provides personal care, comfort measures and environmental services to clients, including those needing special precautions, and performs specific treatments. The position must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, knowledge of growth and development principles, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures. Caregivers work two weeks of on-call per month and holidays as required, maintaining a safe work environment and collaborating with the Private Duty team to deliver client-focused, compassionate, quality care.

• Ensure availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) to achieve positive patient outcomes and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work and patient environment by cleaning work stations, stocking supplies, and properly storing equipment.
• Follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and supporting the patients’ value system; provide care consistent with verbal and/or written instructions; document all required patient care accurately.
• Participate positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers, and students as needed.

Education

• Program Graduate, Personal Care Aide Training Program Approved by VA Department of Health/DMAS (Required) or
• Program Graduate, Nurse Aide Training Program Approved by VA Board of Nursing (Preferred)

Experience

• Prior work experience in a home care setting (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 days (Required)
• Drives personal vehicle for RHS business 25% or more of the time to perform essential functions of the job;
  Valid Driver’s License (Required)
