Patient Services Representative I (2965) - Central Billing Office

Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking a Patient Service Representative to work out of our Central Billing Office in Newport News. Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) is comprised of over 200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is the largest physician‑owned group in Tidewater. The schedule is full‑time work hours, Monday through Friday.

The CBO Patient Services Representative I is responsible for accurate and timely entry of patient account information using a multi‑line phone system. The role includes greeting and assisting patients and other customers efficiently, routing calls to the correct department, and working within a multidisciplinary environment that requires excellent customer service skills.

• Ensures all patient phone calls are handled with professionalism.
• Provides answers to questions over the phone to callers or transfers the phone to the appropriate CBO representative.
• Greets all customers entering the billing department, ensuring any question is handled promptly.
• Accurately updates patient records after speaking with patients.
• Opens and distributes all mail and correspondence daily.
• Reviews and corrects any returned mail received.li>
• Maintains office supplies fully stocked and coordinates equipment maintenance calls.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of computer systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology including cash posting, EOBs, and insurance terminology.
• Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
• Ability to answer a multi‑phone line system.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
• Ability to use office equipment (e.g., calculator, copier, fax, etc.).

• High School diploma/GED.
• Six to twelve months related experience/training.
• One year experience in a medical environment.

• Ability to stand and walk for periods of time.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
• Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
• Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
