The Role

Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area.

This position is part of the Newport News Shipbuilding Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering group, responsible for providing design and engineering support to service Navy nuclear reactors. Reactor Servicing Engineering offers a challenging, high paced, team environment with opportunity to excel and endless possibilities for professional growth. This position is for a Manager Test Engineering 2 with our Operations team. Operations Engineering is responsible for direct engineering oversight and control of nuclear reactor servicing work.

Candidates for this position must be qualified at the Chief Refueling Engineer level in accordance with NAVSEA requirements. Reactor Servicing Engineering is well suited for any engineering discipline to include General Engineering, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Systems, Industrial, Nuclear, and others. Reactor Servicing – Excellence at the Core.

Must Have

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or the required certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. The required certifications must be Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE), Ship Safety Officer (SSO). Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
