Engineers at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) work on the design, building, and refueling of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. This role is for an E25 HM&E Test engineer focused on system test solutions that meet customer contractual needs while respecting technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Responsibilities- Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions acknowledging technical, schedule and cost constraints.
- Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems.
- Coordinates integrated testing activities.
- Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of the test program.
- Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system‑level evaluations.
- Provides instructions to test trades through test procedure documentation and direct input, directs and conducts in‑depth troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems that are not functioning as designed, provides input to senior staff and management for schedule determination, and processes final certification paperwork for system testing within the HM&E AOR.
- ABET Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of relevant exempt experience.
- Master’s Degree with 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Ph.D. with no required years of experience.
- Prior experience with mechanical and electrical system certification testing.
- Background in fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
- Background in electrical system design and theory.
- Experience with submarine operations gained through shipyard or Navy experience.
