About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer I to join the Facilities Projects Team at Newport News Shipbuilding. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to gain hands‑on experience in infrastructure design, construction projects, and project lifecycle management in a world‑class defense manufacturing environment.

As part of this team, you’ll support end‑to‑end project execution—from concept and feasibility through construction, commissioning, and close‑out.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, design, and test electrical systems, components, and equipment.
  • Develop project plans including scope, budget, schedule, risk assessments, and justification.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to support facility infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and develop High‑Level Feasibility Estimates (HLFEs).
  • Review designs for performance, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure all projects meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Support financial and scheduling aspects including budgeting, progress tracking, and contractor payments.
  • Drive project execution with a strong focus on safety, quality, and successful delivery.
Qualifications
  • ✅ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (from an ABET‑accredited program)
  • ✅ Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
  • ✅ Ability to work on multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, technical environment
  • ✅ Interest in electrical systems and facilities infrastructure
