SUMMARY:
The Engineering Analyst conducts analysis on designs of R&D prototype components and assemblies and carries out the following tasks:
- Performs thermal and structural analysis of product components and assemblies using finite element or hand calculation methods.
- Reviews customer specifications and internal methods to plan analysis activities,
- Determines loading conditions and develop appropriate acceptance criteria.
- Performs thermal and structural analysis of product components and assemblies using finite element or hand calculation methods.
- Supports customer interface meetings and design reviews by presenting analysis plan, status and results as required.
- Recommends design and material changes as required to progress the design solution.
- Documents analysis results in both presentation, spreadsheet, and formal report forms.
Preferred
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline with 7+ years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to above.
- Candidate should have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced work environment.
- General familiarity with aerospace research and development test products such as wind tunnel models, test engines and prototype devices; and analysis of these in the subsonic, transonic and hypersonic realms.
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
- Working knowledge of computer-aided modeling codes (NX or SOLIDWORKS preferred
- Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis codes (ANSYS preferred)
- Working knowledge of analysis types and complexities including but not limited to:
- Steady State and Transient Thermal
- Static and Transient Structural
- Modal, Harmonic Response and Random Vibration
- Buckling
- Modeling nonlinearities such as contact, material plasticity, large deflections, etc.
- Modeling of flanges including bolts and pins
- Working knowledge of Mechanics of Materials for the purposes of obtaining material strength and fatigue limits.
- Working knowledge of fatigue and fracture mechanics.
- Working knowledge of analysis of parts made of metals, fiber composites and 3D printed materials.
- US citizenship required to obtain/maintain a DOD security clearance.
Ability to perform textbook hand calculations including but not limited to:
- Axial/bending/torsional stress
- Beam deflection and natural frequency
- 1D fluid flow computations
- ASME Section VIII pressure vessel calcs
- Free body diagrams and force/moment diagrams
