Join to apply for the Product Serviceability Engineer role at Liebherr Group
The Product Serviceability Engineer enhances the serviceability, maintainability, and lifecycle efficiency of mining truck platforms. This role bridges product engineering with field realities—ensuring that appropriate information is provided so that mining trucks are designed for reduced downtime, technician efficiency, and long-term cost-effectiveness. A core responsibility of this position is to develop and apply quantitative Serviceability and Maintainability Indices, which will be used to evaluate and guide design decisions across all mining truck models.
Responsibilities
- Provide data to assist engineering design teams to provide critical feedback in design reviews from a customer support perspective.
- Evaluate truck design using a Serviceability Index that quantifies component accessibility, tool requirements, disassembly time, and spatial constraints.
- Apply a Maintainability Index to measure routine task complexity, expected technician skill level, frequency of maintenance, and time on task.
- Participate in design reviews to influence design decisions using these indices as performance benchmarks.
- Gather insights from fleet operators, technicians, and service teams to identify pain points and improvement opportunities.
- Translate field feedback into actionable design inputs, aligned with KPI-based serviceability goals.
- Validate that service intervals, replacement procedures, and tool usage reflect real-world conditions and technician capabilities.
- Collaborate with diagnostics and telematics teams to provide input on remote fault detection, ensuring they are technician-friendly and minimize troubleshooting time.
- Review data from predictive maintenance algorithms with field service patterns and key maintainability metrics.
- Support the development of optimized service schedules based on data trends and coordinated part replacements.
- Contribute to the development of pre-packaged service kits for components with similar life cycles or replacement schedules.
- Lead creation and validation of technician guides, service manuals, and post-service test protocols.
- Train internal teams and service partners on simultaneous maintenance strategies and best practices derived from index-based evaluations.
- Improve and develop Serviceability Index Scores and increase average accessibility and modularity ratings across truck platforms.
- Develop Maintainability Index Scores and Improve task time, tool count, and procedure simplicity metrics.
- Monitor Mean Time to Repair (MTTR):
Reduction in average service time for routine maintenance and field repairs.
Competencies
- Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3 to 6 years of experience. - Strong interest in heavy machinery, specifically mining trucks, and a willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in large-scale vehicles or machinery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow technical specifications.
- Knowledge of Outlook software, Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
- Hands-on knowledge of mining trucks or off-highway equipment and their maintenance workflows.
- Experience participating in design-for-serviceability reviews and interpreting CAD models for component access evaluations.
- Proficiency in analyzing service data, using KPIs, and developing technical documentation.
- Experience creating or applying Serviceability or Maintainability indices in vehicle or equipment design.
- Familiarity with FMEA/FAME analysis, failure tracking, and reliability engineering tools.
- Understanding of fleet diagnostics, predictive maintenance systems, and telematics platforms.
- Exposure to harsh-environment durability standards (dust,…
