Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required/ Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field preferred.
- A minimum of one year in early childhood education and/or care or three years of related programmatic experience.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
- Demonstration of appropriate professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic at all times.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook email and calendar components.
- A tuberculosis test, and compliance with background checks as required by the Virginia Department of Education.

- Supervise and evaluate the front office staff.
- Will serve as the Program Director in the absence of the center’s Program Director
- Support Program Directors to ensure licensing standards are met to include daily ratios and health and safety measures.
- Ensure the daily work schedule for staff supports the operation of the Center.
- Will provide classroom coverage as a result of a lack of staff to ensure ratios are met.
- Will assist in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans
- Resolve conflicts and manage crises related to children, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Interpret data available from child assessments, the childcare management software, and other sources to include wait lists.
- Help to facilitate required safety drills and the implementation of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan
- Assist with the management of the subsidy programs from Virginia Department of Social Service and the MCCYN Program
- Work with childcare management system to complete assigned tasks.
- Direct and manage USDA programs at Peake Centers to include communication with school divisions and completion of paperwork, data input, and facilitation of program audits and inspections.
- Ensure parents complete necessary paperwork for USDA program.
- Assist in calculating poverty rates when necessary.
- Coordinate with school divisions to ensure appropriate meals are provided and delivery runs smoothly.
- Ensure teachers have needed equipment for meals.
- Assist with the identification, cultivation and coordination of partnerships and resources.
- Attend parent/family meetings with Program Director as needed.
- Plans and implements parent partnerships in collaboration with Program Directors. Responsible for tracking parent/family attendance
- Track attendance and work with families to support daily attendance of children at Peake Childhood Centers
- Coordinate with school divisions to gather and provide Peninsula public schools’ kindergarten general and registration information to families.
- Coordinate holiday and other in kind support for families.
- Collaborate with Program Directors and Development Director to help facilitate volunteer activities in the centers.
- Assist with NAEYC accreditation process and ensure standards are followed.
- Coordinate the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies needed for program operations.
- Participate in the hiring process for front office staff, teachers, and assistant teachers as needed.
- Assist in fostering a positive climate at Peake Centers
- Participate in Development events and tours and assist with preparation for the events.
- Attend Leadership Team Meetings
- Attend Board and Board Committee meetings as needed.
- Work with the ED to ensure the Strategic Plan goals are met.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance leadership skills and early childhood education knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ED.
- Ability to use abstract reasoning, analytical skills, problem solving, and planning skills,
- Ability to use effective communication skills in all settings.
- Ability to work in a team setting,
- Ability to present a positive image of the organization to all members of the Peake community.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse staff, children, and families.
- Possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine, copier, and walkie talkie.
Physical Requirements
- Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
- Job requires sitting in chairs and on the floor, standing for extended periods of time as well as stooping, squatting, and running if needed to ensure child safety.
- Must be able to clean interactive areas.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds to include children when necessary.
- Must be able to enter and exit a Center van without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
