Departmental Objective: To strengthen and support the University’s operations and reputation by providing superior customer service and event management through coordinating effective and efficient event scheduling, event and conference services and event logistical support for all University stakeholders and external partners.

Purpose of the Position

The Technical Assistant for Events Operations provides technical support for event operations including audiovisual and other services in all University owned venues both on and off campus. The position also provides assistance with set-up and operations of audiovisual equipment, as well as post-events breakdown, including but not limited to: audio, lighting, and video/projection equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
  • Signal Flow Theory:
    Deep understanding of how audio, video, and data signals travel from source to output (e.g., Microphone → Mixer → Amplifier → Speaker).
  • Audio Fundamentals:
    Knowledge of acoustics, frequency response, gain staging, and the difference between mic and line levels.
  • Video Standards:
    Familiarity with aspect ratios, resolutions (4K, 1080p), frame rates, and connector types (HDMI, SDI, NDI, Fiber).
  • Lighting Basics: color temperature (K), and the difference between wash, spot, and moving head fixtures.
  • Electrical Safety:
    Basic understanding of power distribution, load balancing, and cable management to prevent hazards.
  • Equipment Configuration:
    Ability to patch audio consoles, configure video switchers (like Blackmagic or Barco), and set up LED walls or projectors.
  • Cable Management:
    Neat cable dressing to ensure safety and professional aesthetics.
  • Composure Under Pressure, Attention to Detail: staying focused during glitches and noticing issues before clients.
  • Communication:
    Translating tech-speak into plain English and coordinating with a team via headsets.
  • Adaptability:
    Pivot when the run of show changes close to doors.
  • Customer-focused interaction with students, faculty, staff, and clients; ability to work independently and in a team; flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

  • Experience configuring audiovisual systems and networks, sound systems, lighting systems, and web-streaming support for multiple venues and events
  • Experience in large scale event productions including executive level and VIP events
Additional Consideration(s)

Education:

  • An Associate’s degree or technical degree/diploma in Audiovisual Technology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Engineering, Broadcasting, Communications, or related field

Experience:

  • Experience providing audiovisual support in a college or university setting
Salary Information

Starting at $43,417, Commensurate with Education and Experience
