Overview
Technical Coordinator for Events Operations (Position 00685) – Media Specialist III. This position supports event operations, including audiovisual and related services, in University venues both on and off campus, and assists with setup, operation, and post‑event breakdown of audio, lighting, and video/projection equipment.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for event operations including audiovisual and other services in University venues on and off campus.
- Assist with the setup and operation of audiovisual equipment and perform post‑event breakdown.
- Support audio, lighting, and video/projection systems to ensure successful events.
- Communicate technical information to clients in clear, non‑technical terms and coordinate with team via headsets (Comms).
- Adapt to changes in run of show (ROS) and customer needs, including last‑minute adjustments.
- Maintain safety and professional aesthetics through proper cable management and equipment configuration.
- Education:
High school graduate or equivalent;
Valid Driver’s License. - Experience:
Configuring audiovisual systems and networks, sound systems, lighting systems, and web‑streaming support for multiple venues and events; experience with large‑scale event productions and providing technical assistance for executive level and other VIP events and presentations. - Additional Consideration:
An Associate’s degree or technical degree/diploma in Audiovisual Technology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Engineering, Broadcasting, Communications, or a closely related field; experience providing audiovisual technical support in a college or university setting.
Salary Information:
Starting at $43,417, commensurate with education and experience. This position includes Commonwealth of Virginia and Christopher Newport University employee benefits, including retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, and other options.
