Litigation Paralegal - Probate, Estates, Trusts, and Conservatorships

Location: Newport Beach, CA (Hybrid)

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Litigation Paralegal with a specialized focus on Probate, Estates, Trusts, and Conservatorship matters. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive support to our attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, from inception through trial and post-judgment. This role requires a strong understanding of probate court procedures, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex cases efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing a high volume of litigation cases, including creating and maintaining electronic and physical case files, calendaring deadlines, and tracking case progress.

  • Document Preparation: Draft, review, and finalize a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission), witness lists, exhibit lists, subpoenas, and trial binders.

  • Discovery Support: Coordinate and manage all aspects of discovery, including document collection, review, production, privilege logs, and deposition preparation.

  • Research: Conduct legal research using Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, and other online databases on various probate, trust, and conservatorship issues, as well as relevant case law and statutes.

  • Court Filings: Prepare and electronically file documents with various courts (state and federal, as applicable), ensuring compliance with local rules and procedures.

  • Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on case status, gathering necessary information, and ensuring client satisfaction under attorney supervision.

  • Trial Preparation: Assist with all aspects of trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing trial notebooks, coordinating witness schedules, and managing trial logistics.

  • Settlement Support: Prepare settlement agreements, releases, and related documents.

  • Administrative Support: Perform general administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and processing invoices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program required.

  • Experience: Minimum of [X, e.g., 5+] years of litigation paralegal experience, with at least [Y, e.g., 3+] years specifically focused on probate, estate, trust, and/or conservatorship litigation.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and legal research platforms (Westlaw, Lexis Nexis). Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase) and e-filing systems is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of civil litigation procedures, court rules (local, state, federal), and specific statutes and case law related to probate, estates, trusts, and conservatorships.
