Education Level: 4 Year Degree
The School Counselor will provide holistic & proactive services which contribute to each student’s educational, vocational, & personal/social development. Your FTE status will determine the required number of days you must be present on campus.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:- Serve as a resource and advocate for students/families in need/crisis
- Oversee Peer Counseling program
- Participate in Student Support Committee and attend Lead Class Advisor/Wellness team meetings
- Handle parent concerns related to the mental development of their child
- Support faculty as needed with questions about student mental development
- Is a member of the Wellness Team
- Refer families to mental health professionals for care when appropriate
- Maintain proper documentation of all work with students
- Is a member of the Wellness and Retention committees
- Attends annual Freshmen and Senior Retreats
- Other duties as delegated by the Dean of School Life
Students in the school community
Reasoning ability:- Ability to work on confidential issues regularly
- Make evaluations and recommendations regarding students
- Analytical thinker with the ability to assess situations accurately and act accordingly
- Experience as an independent school administrator preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong conflict resolution
- Excellent collegiality, professionalism, and organizational ability.
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of the culture and goals of independent schools
- Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently and effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work well with teenagers and their parents
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use sound judgment and work independently
- B.A. or B.S. Degree in appropriate field, M.A or M.S. preferred
