Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) role models clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), as well as the policies and procedures of Southlake Health. The RN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The RN provides direct patient care based on the three-factor framework:
The Client, Nurse and the Environment, as outlined by the CNO standard RN and RPN Practice. These factors influence care-provider assignment decisions and the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses commit to lifelong learning.
- Provide direct patient care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced setting.
- Work as a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and patient flow.
- Practice with a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the inter-professional health care team.
- Plan, coordinate and assess all aspects of care for the cancer client and family, following established standards.
The RN, Outpatient Cancer Clinics and Systemic Therapy Suite delivers care aligned with the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) Standards of Care, Roles of Oncology.
