Job DescriptionPlease note that this is an ongoing posting meaning that applications will be accepted until December 31, 2026 in order to establish a pool of candidates for when opportunities come up.
Responsible for cleaning and general housekeeping of town splash pads, outdoor swimming pools and facilities as required, facility set up and tear down for user groups and events; maintenance and repair work, efficient plant operation of arenas, building and amenity cleanliness, garbage removal, washroom maintenance, ice making, equipment inspection and record keeping duties. Provides assistance and customer service to general public and user groups.
Job Requirements- Practical working knowledge of health and safety regulations and trained in WHMIS procedures to deal with equipment, cleaning chemicals and facility maintenance.
- Familiar with pool equipment, cleaning and operation; CPO (Certified Pool Operator) Certificate an asset.
- Ability to operate arena maintenance equipment including ice resurfacing equipment for arena assignments.
- Formal academic training in municipal arena and/or pool facility operation or equivalent is preferred for arena assignments.
- Janitorial knowledge and the ability to operate cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor waxers, scrubbers, cleaning chemicals etc.).
- Ability to read and comprehend WHMIS labels, complete logs and incident reports.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification would be an asset.
- Flexibility/availability for shift work, weekends and evenings.
- Flexibility/availability for special events as required.
- Class “G” Driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with user groups, general public, program participants.
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town of Newmarket is required.
