Health, Safety & Environment Manager – Mars Snacking (Newmarket)
Job Description:ို့The HSE Manager oversees the company‑wide safety, environmental, and security programs for the site, ensuring personnel safety, asset protection, and environmental compliance. Responsibilities include managing day‑to‑day processes, creating and amending policies, and ensuring adherence to provincial OHSA, insurance, corporate guidelines, and EPA requirements.
- The role has one direct report: HSE Technician.
- B.S. in Safety Management, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of industrial or manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment, including government requirements and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Environment (MOE) requirements and related guidelines.
- Comprehensive understanding of corporate and legislative safety, security, and environmental requirements affecting the business.
- Excellent communication skills across all levels, from senior management to contractors.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts and design.
- Strong analytical abilities and capability to influence without authority.
- Ensure site compliance with company and regulatory safety policies.
- Manage Mars SES Management and associated systems (ETQ/Nexus).
- Maintain compliance with provincial and federal OHSA requirements.
- Oversee safety programs, review incident reports, inspection reports, OHSA logs, and perform Job Safety Analyses as needed.
- Develop and conduct safety training to meet compliance needs.
- Investigate incidents and property loss claims, assist with General Liability and Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Document project safety reviews for all capital projects on site.
- Lead a safety multifaceted program that engages all associates.
- Maintain safety KPIs and champion continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage site capital projects related to safety and environment.
- Collaborate with the Site Director to foster a safety culture through the TPM Safety Pillar.
- Partner with the Site Director to cascade the HSE & Security OGSM strategy.
- Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory environmental requirements.
- Maintain environmental reporting and record‑keeping for all media (Air Permits, Tier I/II, TRI, Stormwater, Wastewater).
- Administer environmental training (SPCC, SWPPP, Emergency Response, etc.) for required personnel.
- Maintain equipment and permit checklists for environmental permits.
- Coordinate environmentalъж sampling, equipment, and reporting.
- Lead annual reviews of local and global regulatory standards.
- Track material and utilities usage for reporting.
- Input sustainability metrics into Enablon database.
- Coordinate emergency response activities.
- Ensure all permits and documentation are accurate and submitted on time.
- Manage site security to meet corporate standards.
- Deliver security training for all associates and oversee system operations.
