Position OverviewThe State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). a Transportation Planning Director in the Bureau of Policy and Planning. The Director will provide leadership for two key offices—Roadway Information Systems and Program Development and Forecasting—supporting statewide transportation planning and policy.
Key Responsibilities- Set goals and objectives for programs; direct and coordinate activities across offices.
- Manage State Planning and Research funds and develop office budgets.
- Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, state, and federal agencies.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements and timely submission of reports.
- Serve as technical advisor to the Bureau Chief on department plans and policies.
- Oversee the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, including the Strategic Plan and Business Intelligence initiatives.
- Lead cross‑functional alignment to track progress on strategic priorities.
- Drive innovation to improve processes and build capacity through staff development, coaching, and mentoring.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Ten (10) years of professional experience in transportation, urban, regional, or environmental planning or engineering project management.
- Two (2) years of that experience in a managerial capacity in transportation, urban, regional or environmental planning or engineering project management.
- Leadership experience in the transportation planning sector.
- Experience with transportation planning and emerging issues.
- Senior management experience delivering projects or programs.
- Experience with organizational and staff development.
- Experience with legislative and government budgeting processes.
- Stakeholder collaboration across government levels.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in complex negotiations.
- Extensive knowledge of transportation planning principles, federal and state transportation funding programs, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Management principles and practices for transportation planning.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
