Introduction

Positions are based in Newington, CT and support the department’s mission of improving quality of life through transportation.

The summer workers will assist in developing and maintaining data tools, processes, and quality procedures to support data‑driven decision‑making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and adjust sustainable Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes using FME, Power Automate, and other data‑management software.
- Develop authoritative geospatial datasets and web/desktop tools using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and Model Builder.
- Implement and maintain linear referencing system (LRS) data for QA/QC, analysis, and management.
- Review datasets and data‑processing workflows to identify opportunities for improving efficiency, accuracy, and completeness.
- Collaborate with asset data stewards to recommend integration opportunities and promote the benefits of a centralized GIS warehouse.
- Support data owners and custodians in building automated processes and interactive user interfaces for dynamic reporting.
- Work cross‑functionally to provide access and tools to internal stakeholders and the public.
- Identify data gaps in workflows in partnership with the business analysis team and develop integrated technology solutions.
- Document data inventories, attribute data, schemas, business requirements, and publish versioned web services.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Candidate must be 16 to 18 years old according to position requirements.
- Any experience and training that reasonably provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the role description.
- Academic background in geography, geographic information systems, computer science, remote sensing, or machine learning (GPA 3.0 or higher).
- Experience or training in data management, GIS or linear referencing systems through coursework, internships, or training programs.
- Proficiency with Esri’s ArcGIS Suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, Model Builder, insights), Microsoft 365, FME, QGIS, or related software.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a collaborative work style.
