Environmental Planning Seasonal Worker - Cultural Resources
The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for a Seasonal Worker (Environmental Planning Seasonal Worker - Cultural Resources) position in the Bureau of Policy and Planning Cultural Resources Unit within the Office of Environmental Planning (OEP).
Applicants should have a background in history, architectural history, archaeology, anthropology, or historic preservation.
Position Highlights- Anticipated start date:
May 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026 - Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, first shift - Hours:
8 hours per day, 40 hours per week (seasonal) - Location:
Newington, CT
- Assist in preparing documentary research that aids Cultural Resources Unit staff in reviewing potential presence of cultural resources and determining impacts, avoidance, and mitigation methods.
- Assist in preparing GIS maps and supporting documentation for cultural resource reviews associated with design projects.
- Assist in preparing quarterly and annual reports for programmatic agreements, Memorandums of Agreement, and requests from federal and state agencies.
- Assist in preparing training and standard operating procedure documents for the unit.
- Assist in preparing presentations and reports of meetings for CTDOT projects that impact cultural resources with federal and state agencies, elected officials, tribal representatives, consulting parties, and the public.
- Assist in conducting field work with OEP Staff and task‑based Cultural Resources Unit on‑call consultants.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Selected candidates must be at least 16 or 18 years old, depending on the position.
- Experience and training that reasonably provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the responsibilities above.
- Academic history demonstrating interest in cultural resources identification and management.
- Academic or work history in history, architectural history, archaeology, anthropology, or historic preservation.
- Grade point average of 3.0 or higher in related courses.
- Experience or training in reading and interpreting design plans and maps.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS or related computer software.
- Interest in and flexibility with working in an office environment as well as field environments.
- Ability to perform emergency first aid as needed; certain positions require a current Standard First Aid Certificate.
- For bus driver or motor vehicle operator positions, possession of a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator License.
- Some positions may require travel.
