Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
To ensure the speedy, efficient and accurate delivery of assembled product and invoices to the customer within the corporate guidelines.
Responsibilities- Maintain a safe and competent standard of driving, observing speed limits and other traffic signs, and giving due regard to other road users.
- Perform a daily vehicle check to ensure roadworthiness, including lights, brakes, coolant, and other essential systems.
- Report any faults, breakdowns, accidents or delays promptly.
- Maintain the internal and external condition of the vehicle and its cleanliness.
- Ensure sufficient fuel is available for the day's work.
- Maintain the security of the vehicle and its contents at all times.
- Check all orders shown on the drop sheets and ensure all orders are loaded onto the vehicle.
- Collect goods returned for credit, mail, delivery bins and safely return them to the branch as instructed by branch management.
- Deal promptly and correctly with damages or breakages, following special procedures for Haz Chems.
- Maintain a smart appearance at all times.
- Help maintain good customer relations.
- Support other duties, including warehouse tasks, as defined by management.
- Act on own initiative and work unsupervised, monitoring the condition of the vehicle and reporting serious faults or damages.
- Build customer loyalty by effectively meeting customer needs and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction.
- Communicate clearly through various media to engage audiences and help them understand and retain information.
- Actively participate as a member of a team to help the team reach its goals.
- Take prompt action to accomplish objectives and be proactive in achieving goals beyond what is required.
- Show safety awareness and be mindful of conditions affecting employee safety.
No managerial responsibility and no direct influence on budget.
Key Working Relationships- Constant interaction with external customers.
- Regular liaison with other drivers and members of the transport team.
- Required to act on own initiative and work unsupervised.
- Required to monitor the condition of own vehicle and report damages or faults.
- Decisions on vehicle roadworthiness may be made by the driver in serious fault situations.
- A full driving licence relevant to the vehicle being driven.
- All drivers must be over 21 years of age for insurance purposes.
- The risk of employing applicants who have points on their licence will be assessed and may affect shortlist decisions.
- Existing employees must update fleet services with any changes to their licence status (e.g. points, bans).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer care skills.
- Intermediate numeracy and literacy.
- Previous experience of multi‑drop delivery driving is highly desirable.
- Route planning experience is desirable.
- Manual handling tasks such as lifting and bending are "essential requirements" of this role.

Drivers are required to maintain a smart appearance due to their constant interaction with external customers 48 hours Monday to Friday. £14.82 per Hour (6am – 4pm).
