Motor Vehicle Technician – Heavy Goods Vehicle

Location:

Newcastle upon Tyne. Salary: GBP 36,363 – 39,862 per annum.

Newcastle City Council (City Transport) are seeking an experienced, time‑served Heavy Goods Vehicle technician to take up a permanent position.

Role

City Transport maintains and repairs a diverse range of heavy and light vehicles, plant and horticultural equipment as well as operating two MOT stations that test class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles, licensed taxis and hackney carriages. Your role will involve the effective and efficient maintenance, diagnostics and repair of the council’s plant, horticultural equipment and Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) fleet, including an understanding of DVSA and Operators Licence standards to prepare and present LGVs for MOT.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair a diverse range of heavy and light vehicles, plant and horticultural equipment.
  • Test class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles, licensed taxis and hackney carriages at our MOT stations.
  • Diagnose and repair LGV fleet vehicles in line with DVSA and Operators Licence standards.
  • Prepare and present LGVs for MOT.
  • Meet deadlines whilst consistently producing good quality work in a safe manner at all times.
Qualifications
  • Recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Category B driving licence is essential.
  • Category C LGV licence or valid MOT tester qualification is advantageous.
