Java Developer, Cloud Engineer - Software
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Bonus
NOTE: Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (5 years continuous UK residency required).
We are hiring a Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering secure, enterprise-scale solutions within a complex and regulated environment.
You will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of modular microservices using modern Java frameworks. Working within an Agile Scrum environment, you will collaborate closely with technical leads, cloud engineers, and QA teams to deliver high-quality software aligned to enterprise standards.
Key responsibilities include:- Developing backend services using Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot
- Building and maintaining microservices architectures
- Integrating with enterprise middleware platforms such as Web Logic and secure integration frameworks
- Supporting deployments into secure public cloud environments (AWS), leveraging containerisation
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices
- Applying engineering best practices including TDD, code reviews, and consistent branching strategies
- Participating in sprint ceremonies including planning, refinement, and retrospectives
- Minimum 2+ years of commercial Java development experience
- Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Understanding of RESTful services and microservices architecture
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Git Lab, Jenkins, or Sonar Qube
- Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and container technologies
- Understanding of secure development practices
