Overview
Do you have a passion for supporting children and families to achieve their potential? Can you play a key role in our MST Standard Team as an MST Therapist completing intensive work with families? MST Standard is a specialist service that is an important part of Newcastle’s Edge of Care Services, the team is well established and works alongside another MST team in Newcastle.
This is an exciting time to work in children’s services in Newcastle. Through our innovative work as part of the DFE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children programme, we are implementing the Family Valued approach across our service and city to transform how we work with children, families and partners. Family Valued is a relational and restorative approach to services, focusing on strengths and values.
MST will play an important role in these changes through the intensive work they complete with families with some of the most complex issues. We are looking to recruit an MST Therapist to join our successful MST Standard team in Newcastle.
MST Standard is a community-based model directed to older children, teenagers and their families. The approach is targeted at those families where the young person is at risk of coming into care or custody and aims to prevent family breakdown, to reduce offending and to improve educational outcomes.
- MST works intensively with children, young people and their families as well as the other systems around the young person.
- Caseloads are limited to 4-6 families for each therapist.
- You must be able to participate as part of a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week on-call rota.
- You will ideally have a post-graduate qualification in psychology, social work, counselling or an equivalent professional qualification from a relevant field of child/adolescent or adult/parenting practice.
- Experience and knowledge in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy and/or pragmatic behavioural interventions would be preferred although full training in the MST model will be provided.
- Therapists receive weekly group supervision from the manager and consultation from MST Services.
- Applicants with a related undergraduate degree and significant relevant professional experience will be considered.
We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s).
It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
