We are seeking a School Attendance Manager to lead the development and implementation of strategies that improve attendance, reduce persistent absence, and promote pupil welfare. This is a key leadership role within our pastoral structure, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and managing the Attendance Team.
Typical duties within this post will encompass working with a caseload of students where the major area of concern is absence from school.
The role will include:- Leading and managing the Attendance Team, ensuring high standards and effective systems
- Developing and managing whole-school policies and practices to improve attendance and welfare
- Overseeing complex cases of persistent absence and coordinating multi-agency support
- Acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and contributing to safeguarding processes
- Producing detailed attendance reports and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
- Building strong relationships with families and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven experience in attendance and welfare leadership within a school or similar setting
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and statutory attendance duties
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
- Experience of managing a team of colleagues
- Someone with experience of working with young people.
- Someone who can demonstrate a good understanding of issues faced by students and families.
- A sympathetic understanding of broad needs of secondary aged students.
- Attention to detail.
