The Estates Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible maintenance assistant to join the Engineering Department at Freeman Hospital. The role requires assisting with the completion of engineering maintenance tasks to ensure statutory, mandatory and Trust‑specific Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks are completed on time and efficiently.
Successful candidates will have a basic knowledge of building and engineering services and relevant experience within a maintenance environment. Experience with water system testing, ventilation systems, electrical systems, and working in an acute hospital environment is desirable, though not essential.

Main duties of the jobTypical PPM tasks include water tank inspections; PAT testing; emergency light testing; ventilation grille cleaning; air handling unit inspections and cleaning; legionella prevention PPMs; fire alarm testing; bed maintenance, and additional minor works and day‑to‑day reactive maintenance.
Flexible working is required to meet the Estates support demands of a large Acute Teaching Hospital Trust.

Job responsibilities- Work under the direction of a craftsperson while working alongside.
- Carry out a range of individual and support duties including maintenance and respond to Estates emergencies.
- Assist with installation, repair, and commissioning of equipment.
- Maintain site & plant room tidiness and safety.
- Driving duties as required.
- Carry out a range of maintenance activities on a variety of plant and equipment.
- Domestic appliance repairs.
- Bed maintenance.
- Water flushing.
- Basic building and engineering knowledge and relevant experience within a maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
- Experience with specialist maintenance activities such as PAT testing and water sampling.
- Experience working in an acute hospital environment.
- Capability to work unsupervised with tools and equipment.
- Both written and verbal communication skills required.
- Basic keyboard skills.
- Ability to work on planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Current driving licence.
