Job Summary

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals invite applications for a full‑time Catering Supervisor to join the RVI Catering Department, part of the Team of the Year 2022. The role runs 37.5 hours a week, 5 days over a 7‑day rota, with two weekends off each month. Duties include supervising the catering team, managing menus, staffing, health & safety compliance and patient food quality.

Duties
  • Supervise a catering team of up to 70 staff.
  • Coordinate communication between catering, wards and other departments.
  • Manage menus in the catering system and ensure they are posted for wards.
  • Prepare daily worksheets, rosters, and oversee overtime, holidays and sickness.
  • Use in‑house allocation system for pay and holidays.
  • Apply HACCP principles and meet all health and hygiene regulations.
  • Monitor the patient food belt to ensure quality, presentation and correct delivery.
  • Engage with ward staff to resolve food service issues.
  • Optimise staffing and resource allocation to meet service demands.
  • Conduct staff appraisals, induct new staff, facilitate risk‑assessment training, moving and handling, and first‑aid courses.
  • Collaborate with the Diet Chef to meet patient dietary needs and manage allergen information.
Qualifications & Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 Supervisory Leadership Qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Qualification Level 2 and Allergen Qualification or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds 706/2 or NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation (desirable).
  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel).
  • Experience in a customer‑focused environment.
  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements.
  • Previous experience in large‑scale catering and HACCP knowledge (desirable).

The role is suitable for individuals who can commit to a supervisory position within a food service shift, prioritise food hygiene and safety standards, and manage quality control and operational tasks.
