Specialist Practitioner
- Safeguarding.

The closing date is 09 February 2026

We are looking for a Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner to join our busy Safeguarding team. You will contribute to a proactive, responsive safeguarding service, working in partnership with staff and key stakeholders to deliver high‑quality advice, guidance, support and training, while supporting the Trust’s commitment to safeguarding babies, children, young people and adults at risk.

This fast‑paced, diverse role requires you to think on your feet, positively challenge colleagues and other agencies, and maintain high levels of professional curiosity. If you have transferable skills and want to develop a career in safeguarding, this may be the job for you.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to a proactive, responsive safeguarding service as part of the Northumbria Trust‑wide Safeguarding team.

Provide advice, support, clinical supervision and training for clinical and non‑clinical staff.

Organise and coordinate key work such as information sharing with internal wards and departments, and wider partnership processes such as MASH (Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub).

Support Trust staff and partner agencies to understand safeguarding from a health perspective.

Exercise accountability as set out in the relevant Code of Professional Conduct.

Respond to contacts into the team for advice, seeking senior advice as needed to maintain high service standards.

Role‑model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the Trust. This includes engaging, enabling and empowering others, using coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitating team working and collaboration across organisational boundaries.

About us

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust manages three major locality hospitals (North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham) plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. We are at the forefront of innovation and quality, having opened a state‑of‑the‑art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England.

We support our staff and focus on staff experience as much as we do the patient experience, and we operate in an area with clean air, cost‑effective living and great nightlife.
