Overview
We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner to join a busy Safeguarding team. The role contributes to a proactive, responsive safeguarding service, working in partnership with staff and key stakeholders to deliver high quality advice, guidance, support and training while supporting the Trust's commitment to safeguarding babies, children, young people, and adults at risk.
To contribute to the delivery of safeguarding services as part of the Northumbria Trust wide safeguarding team. The role includes providing advice, support, clinical supervision and training for clinical and non-clinical staff, and coordinating key work such as information sharing with internal wards, departments and wider partnership processes (e.g., MASH – Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub).
To support Trust staff and partner agencies to understand safeguarding from a health perspective and to exercise accountability as set out in the relevant Code of Professional Conduct.
To respond to contacts for advice and support, seeking senior advice as needed to maintain high service standards, and to role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership culture within the Trust.
This role involves identifying and understanding risks, analysing and helping to provide safe plans to care for people who are suffering or at risk of suffering abuse and neglect, including unborn babies, babies, children and adults. It also includes acting quickly and robustly to respond to risk and keep people safe, supporting staff to react appropriately to safeguarding issues, and contributing to team assurance functions and data collection activities.

- Respond to enquiries into the safeguarding team for advice and support, seeking senior guidance as needed to maintain high service standards.
- Model compassionate and inclusive leadership to enable learning, quality improvement and effective team collaboration across organisational boundaries.
- Identify and understand safeguarding risks and contribute to safe plans for those affected by abuse or at risk, including unborn babies, children and adults.
- Respond quickly and robustly to safeguarding risk to keep people safe.
- Support Trust staff to understand and react appropriately to safeguarding issues.
- Contribute to team assurance functions and data collection activities.
- Essential criteria as defined by the Trust; membership of the Armed Forces, disability requirements (two ticks pledge) and meeting essential criteria may lead to interview under the Trust’s interview guarantee scheme.
- Applicants will require additional pre-employment checks in line with FPPR (Fit and Proper Person Requirements) in line with CQC and NHS England statutory guidance.
- Applicants should be able to obtain the necessary DBS check if required, with payment method to be arranged as per policy.
