An exciting opportunity has arisen for a reliable, well‑organised and highly efficient person for the post of Clerk/Typist to work within the Musculoskeletal Directorate at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. The post holder will work within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to the Arthroplasty team.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and good telephone skills. You should be able to prioritise workloads effectively with excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of NHS systems and medical terminology are desirable.

- Working within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff within their team, i.e. Specialist Nurses
- Audio typing of letters and documents
- Managing the e-Referral system
- Deal with telephone enquiries promptly
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of medical staff
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 9 – 4 (A* –
C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience - Understanding of confidentiality issues
- Successful completion of an intermediate (level
2) apprenticeship in Business Administration
- Understanding of confidentiality issues
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Good IT skills to include office software packages
- Good keyboard skills and Text Processing ability
- Good communication skills both written verbal and telephone skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and work on own initiative
